Overview Have you ever dreamt of seeing the planet like Commander Hadfield did during his space missions? Here’s your chance to build a workspace rocket, fueled with satellite imagery and AWS DEM data, and take off for an exciting flight over the planet. You will learn how to get instant access to the huge archive of Landsat 8, Sentinel 2, and Planet satellite imagery, how to get a DEM for any region of the planet, and how to inspect, modify, and combine your raster datasets into a textured 3D model. Fine print: No actual spacecraft will be provided.
Learning Objectives
Read raster data provided by Planet, Sentinel 2, and Landsat 8
Inspect and understand rasters - interpretation, bands, nodata, and alpha
Learn how to work with raster palettes and bit masks
Modify images with raster expressions, calculate NDVIUse your data to trigger DEM downloading
Build 3D surface and apply textures made from satellite imagery
Prerequisites / Level of Difficulty All levels of FME users. Knowledge of FME Workbench is an advantage, but no prior raster knowledge is required.
Please bring a laptop that can connect to Wifi and remote desktop to Windows machines. A remote Windows machine with FME Desktop will be provided, plus various installations of FME Server and/or FME Cloud.
